In 2009 Greenpeace began the Cool IT Challenge to stimulate IT companies to create solutions for sustainability. In April of this year Greenpeace published the third instalment of the Cool IT Leaderboard, ranking the top 15 companies.

Greenpeace has put out its Guide to Greener Electronics this year, with various electronic companies ranked based on sustainability criteria by Greenpeace. The 14th edition has added new criteria on support for revisions to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive that would ban PVC vinyl plastic, brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and chlorinated flame retardants from electronics.
